By Disposition No. 1592/2025, published in the Official Gazette on 3 November 2025, the Argentine Coast Guard (Prefectura Naval Argentina) approved Rectifying Bulletin No. 1-2025 to Ordinance No. 1/2008 (DPSN), Volume I “Technical Regulations for Vessels”, entitled “Measures on Navigation Safety.”
Through this regulatory amendment, the modification to the International Convention for the Safety of Life at Sea (SOLAS), adopted by the Maritime Safety Committee (MSC) of the International Maritime Organization (IMO) under Resolution MSC.532(107), has been incorporated into the Argentine domestic regulatory framework.
Regulation V/19.2.12 of the SOLAS Convention requires that containerships and bulk carriers of 3,000 gross tonnage (GT)and upwards constructed on or after 1 January 2026, be fitted with an electronic clinometer, or with another equivalent means capable of determining, displaying, and recording the vessel’s rolling motion.
This amendment seeks to enhance navigational safety and operational integrity, by improving the measurement, monitoring, and recording of roll movements, thereby contributing to greater accuracy in stability assessment and to the prevention of maritime incidents.
