New Disposition from the Argentine Maritime Authority on the Under-Keel Clearance (UKC)

By virtue of Disposition 296/2025, Prefectura Naval Argentina (PNA) has  approved a significant modification to Maritime Ordinance No. 4-2018 (DPSN), which establishes new provisions regarding the under-keel clearance (UKC) that vessels must comply with while navigating the Main Navigation Route. This disposition is part of the modernization and adaptation strategy for the maritime sector, aimed at improving safety and operational efficiency, while promoting economic growth and market competitiveness.

Section 1 of the new disposition approves Rectifying Circular No. 1-2025 to Ordinance No. 4-2018 (DPSN), establishing a new under-keel clearance (UKC) of 0.60 meters, thereby restoring its historical value.

Additionally, the disposition establishes the creation of a working group with maritime sector representatives to evaluate the risks associated with these changes and to optimize the operation of the Waterway.

Finally, the new regulation authorizes vessel captains to increase the UKC if navigation conditions require, thereby ensuring greater flexibility and adaptability in unforeseen situations.

This modification aims to enhance maritime logistics, addressing national strategic interests and ensuring that the impact of these changes remains positive and sustainable in terms of economic efficiency, navigation safety, environmental protection, and human life safety in the waters.
